Event Details

November 11-12, 2009

Kirk Strosahl describes the workshop:

This new advanced 2 day workshop is heavily practice oriented. We will deal with the application of ACT to specific disorders and will use role plays, and case examples submitted by the audience to develop needed clinical skills.

Workshop attendees will do a self assessment of core ACT skills prior to and after the training workshop. This will help each person identify weak spots in their skills that we can specifically address with the training. We will invite members of the audience to submit video recordings of ACT sessions in advance of the workshop or at the workshop itself.

So, this will be an intensive, group oriented training in conceptualizing real cases and applying
ACT strategies to real cases. There will be only a limited amount of didactic training; most of that will be to expose folks to new content that is appearing in the upcoming second edition of the ACT book.

N.B. You must have attended an introductory ACT workshop, or have some training in using the ACT model, before attending this one. This workshop will assume you know the basic theory and practice of the ACT model.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I have to be a member to attend the Workshop? How do I join?
No, you don't HAVE to join the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science to attend the Workshop, but why wouldn't you? It only costs $1.00 (or whatever you deem your membership is worth) and look at all the ACT clinical, research and training resources you get access to. Not to mention the warm fuzzy feelings that come with making a contribution to a psychology more adequate to the human condition. Ready to join? Click here.

  2. I registered but now can't attend the Workshop. Can I get a refund?
Yes. If your request is received by
November 6, a full refund will be provided less, a $50 handling fee. After November 6 refunds will only be provided in exceptional circumstances, otherwise you can allocate your ticket to a friend or colleague. Please email info@anzact.com if you wish to allocate your ticket to someone else so that we can put their details on the name badge and attendance certificate. To obtain the refund, email our helpful volunteers at info@anzact.com using the email address you registered with and the Order Number of the ticket(s) you purchased. This information should be in the confirmation email you received from Eventbrite when you registered.

  3. Where exactly is the workshop happening? How do I get there?
The workshop is at the Elisabeth Murdoch Theatre in Spencer Rd inside the Parkville campus of the University of Melbourne. Note that the Google Map on the workshop home page is incorrect. The theatre is further north on Spencer Rd than the marker on this map shows. The closest external street corner is Swanston and Faraday Streets and the Theatre is behind the Ian Potter Museum of Art on Swanston St. Several trams from the city and the northern suburbs travel along Swanston St and there is a major tram terminus outside the Ian Potter Museum. For more information and timetables, go to http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/stop/view/19489. If you are entering the campus from Royal Parade (number 19 tram on Elizabeth St) the most direct route is along Tin Alley (Gate 14 on Royal Parade) and turn right at Spencer Rd.

Registration

Registration for the Workshop will take place at the Elisabeth Murdoch Theatre NOT at the Economics and Commerce building as previously indicated.

Friday, November 06, 2009

  • There was an error in the email Julian sent out on Thursday 5th. Registration for the workshop does not take place on the morning of Friday 13th as that email indicated. The intended time and day was 8.15-8.50 Wednesday 11th and the workshop starts immediately afterwards. ACT therapists can work miracles, but time travel is not yet one of them.
  • The RSS feed links on the workshop page and conference page don’t work. SO if you’re wanting to use the feed to get our news, the link for both events is: http://www.eventbrite.com/rss/organizer_list_events/187765220
  • If you need a tax invoice for the Workshop and haven't received one yet, please email treasurer@anzact.com and one will be sent to you (but please be patient).
  • Last word on catering and food preferences. We had to notify the caterers of final numbers for all meals including gluten-free and vegetarian meals today (Friday 6th Nov.) If you have other special dietary requirements or didn't get your name on the gluten-free list by that date, you will need to make other arrangements (e.g. bring the food you require).
